Centre major shareholder in harnessing state's solar energy | Is JK taking undue credit for GoI's projects? | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 24: The State Power Ministry, which is claiming to be electrifying the state, hasn't actually done much to provide relief to the people, as it's the Central Government that has been at the forefront when it comes to fulfilling the state's energy requirements. The documents in possession of the Early Times reveal that there has been a major financial assistance accorded to the state by the Union Government. "The State Power ministry hasn't done much. It has always been the Central Government which is keen in providing electricity to the far off villages of the state. However, it is unfortunate that its role has been undermined while the JK ministry strives to take the credit of all," sources said. It was informed that the incentives in respect of the various solar energy devices were given by the central government and the state dispensation hadn't done much in this regard. For example, Solar Home Light CFL based had the per unit cost of Rs. 9581. The state share was mere 208 Rs. while the central was Rs. 8623. For the Solar Home Light LED, the cost per unit was Rs.4850. Here also the state share was mere Rs. 208 while the union government provided Rs. 4365 for the project. For the Solar Street light LED, the per unit cost was Rs. 13292. The state share wasn't more than 1329. However the central share was Rs.11963. Solar Power Plant on grid (per KW) had a per unit cost of 90000. The state share here was 1329 while the central government provided 63000 per unit cost for the project. Solar Power Plant off-grid had a per unit cost of 170000. The state government bore merely 51000 unit cost while the central government gave assistance of Rs.119000. For the solar cooker project, the cost per unit was Rs.3985. The central share in this regard was 1836 while as the state government provided Rs.1349 as per unit cost. Despite such a major share of the Central Government in Ensuring betterment in state's power sector, its role vis-a-vis the same has been diminished and undermined at large. It is the state dispensation that despite its dilatory policies and approach, was striving to get credit for the what it hasn't done. What could provide a glimpse of the state's non- serious approach is harnessing the solar power is that two major projects with a potential of generating 7500 MW of solar power have already been sanctioned for the state, but it has failed to contribute to the country's total installed capacity of 5000 MW solar energy. The state has solar power potential of 111.05 GW. It is the second highest in the country after Rajasthan, which has the solar energy potential of 142 GW. |
