Speaker's remarks on Rohingya expunged from record, House resumes business
2/10/2018 11:29:10 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 10: Following a massive uproar by the opposition members and request made by the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, the Speaker of State Legislative Assembly ordered for expunging remarks made by him on "Rohingya Muslims" settlement. The Speaker had blamed Rohingyas for today's terror attack on the army camp at Sunjwan in a densely populated area in heart of Jammu city.
As soon as the House resumed the business, the opposition members raised the issue once again and sought apology from the Speaker.
Speaking on the issue, CPI (M) MLA from Kulgam said the words of Speaker had the potential to disturb the peace and tranquility in Jammu and requested him to take his words back. CPI (M) said that he cannot dictate the Chair but can only request him.
Several opposition members cutting across party lines supported the CPI (M) MLA.
The communist member said that it is premature to blame anyone without any inquiry. Even Parliamentary Affairs Minister supported the opposition members and urged the Speaker to withdraw his comment.
Reacting to the opposition demand, NC legislator from Nagrota said that everyone is saying that the terror incident is condemnable. He said that the concern of all the members is same adding that the House should be united to condemn such terror acts.
He said that Jammu right from the onset of militancy remained a harbinger of peace, communal harmony and secularism. After MLA Nagrota's final request, the Speaker ordered to expunge his remarks, thus paving the way for normal resumption of the House business.
