Early Times Report

REASI, Feb 13: Illegal rafting in ferocious river Chenab near Zero Moor here is risking the lives of the adventurers while the Tourism department is silent despite being aware of the deadly game.
Early Times is in possession of video, which suggests that the Tourism department officials are aware of the illegal rafting taking place in the area, but has failed to take measures to prevent it. Officials said rafting in Chenab is "highly risky" and cannot be allowed unless a team of experts gives a nod for it.
"Before allowing rafting a team of experts is expected to visit the area and decide all modalities including rafts and safety measures needed to be in place, but here it's all mess," experts said adding life of tourists was being put to risk.
"Here to make easy bucks through nazrana the department has been allowing the rafting as a part of underhand dealing with the raft operators who are understood to be paying huge amounts to some babus," said an insider on the condition of anonymity. The tourism department has downplayed the issue.
Meanwhile a Jammu based civil society group has decided to file a complaint with the Union Government over growing corruption in the Tourism department.
