KUPWARA, Mar 1: The bodies of three hunters who went missing six days ago after being swept by an avalanche at Lashkote area of this north Kashmir district were recovered by a joint team of rescuers today morning.
According to sources , the families of the trio on Tuesday had urged the government to trace out the missing persons.
A team of rescuers comprising of police, army and SDRF had started rescue operations on Sunday but returned back due to lack of expertise.
On Wednesday a rescue team comprising of 82 persons who have expertise in the field were deputed to the avalanche spot, sources informed.
Meanwhile a top police official told Early Times over the phone that, bodies of three persons who went missing on 24th of Feb after they were hit by an avalanche at Guchibal Behak in North Kashmir's Kupwara district were recovered today by the joint rescue team of police, SDRF and army.
Almost it took six days in tracing the dead bodies of three hunters who had come under Avalanche in Lolab, the police official said.
He said that the Avalanche had hit in Lashkut forest area of Dardpora (Lolab) in this north Kashmir district, adding the inclement weather had hampered the rescue operation. The deceased persons were identified as Ghulam Mohammad Lone, 37 years son of Ali Mohammad Lone, Mohammad Altaf Mir son of Bashir Ahmad Mir, 25 years residents of Warnoo Lolab and Bashir Ahmad Ganaie son of Ghulam Rasool resident of Dardpora, Lolab. The bodies of the deceased persons were found under snow mass by a special rescue team which was deputed to the area on Wednesday, the official added. The official also said that the bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the families after completion of all legal formalities. It is learnt from sources that, the state government have announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of those killed in a snow avalanche in Lashkote forests of Lolab in Kupwara district.
Minister for Disaster Management, Relief Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Javaid Mustafa Mir announced the compensation under the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) for the victims' families, said sources.
Meanwhile in another incident a 28-year-old person was killed and another suffered injuries after a snow avalanche struck at Tulail area of Gurez sector in Bandipora district on Wednesday late evening.
Police official said that two persons were injured after they came under the avalanche at Hassangam-Malangam area of Tulail today evening. The official identified the duo as Abdul Aziz Beigh (28) son of Ghulam Mohammad Beigh and Haleem Beigh (24) son of Sheer Beigh, residents of Malangam.
Both the injured were immediately shifted to sub-district hospital Tulail where Abdul Aziz succumbed to injuries, he added.
