Jammu pays for BJP's silence on PDP-PC 'corruption, favouritism' in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 1: Amid numerous complaints of "corruption and favoritism" to absorb the kith and kin of Peoples Democratic Party leaders in government jobs, Jammu has borne the brunt of these 'illegal' appointments. Officials said government agencies like the Khadi Board, Social Welfare Department and National Rural Health Mission have unduly benefited the kith and kin of PDP leaders by snatching due share of Jammu region in these jobs. Citing the example of Khadi board, officials said the lion's share of jobs was given to Kashmir whereas Jammu was ignored. Officials said the same holds true for jobs given to "influential" candidates in the Integrated Child Protection Scheme, which falls under the purview of Social Welfare Department headed by separatist turned mainstream politician Sajjad Gani Lone. Official sources said dozens of candidates have been absorbed under this centrally sponsored scheme but mainly from Kashmir region in the Social Welfare Department. "The favouritism has been so huge that even the head of this scheme was employed through backdoor as he was close aide of the sitting minister. Following hue and cry the appointment had to be cancelled but the man who now heads the scheme equally dances to the tunes of the manti," said a source close to the developments. The Social Welfare Department officials have been accusing Sajjad Gani Lone of "forcing them to violate norms in recruitments only to benefit his nears and dears." Sajjad Lone, who allegedly misused his position to benefit 'PDPs favourites apart from his own nears and dears in Kashmir" has been given the ministry out of BJP quota. Interestingly the BJP, which was voted to power by the people of Jammu, has been silent over discrimination with the educated employed youth of the region, at the hands of PDP and Sajad Lone. Sources said the BJP leaders are silent because Sajjad Lone allegedly enjoys patronage of BJP leadership in New Delhi. "How can we speak against him when he is a minister from our quota and enjoys patronage of our bosses. So we are helpless and people of Jammu will have to bear with the injustice," said a BJP leader on the condition of anonymity. Sources said even though some BJP leaders wanted to pick up the issue with senior BJP leader Dr Jitendra Singh who is close to the Prime Minister's office, they have been advised not to act against the "interests of Sajjad Lone." Despite repeated attempts the concerned couldn't be contacted for comments |
