Amid protests, Sunderbani-Nowshehra give 24-hour ultimatum to Govt for distt status | | | AB Sharma Early Times Report Rajouri, Mar 5: Continuing with the agitation seeking district status for the twin areas of Sunderbani and Nowshera here, the residents on Monday gave 24-hour ultimatum to the government to meet their demands. Amid a shutdown in the area for the past 17 days, the protesters said they would go on hunger strike and onus of any untoward incident would lie on the government. The protesters told Early Times that they want district status in line with Kotranka, which has a Additional District Commissioner dedicated for the area. "We want district status on similar lines," the locals said. Raising slogans against the ruling PDP-BJP alliance the locals said it was unfortunate that the government was unwilling to buy their genuine pleas even as shutdown continues to affect the normal life for the past over a fortnight. The locals said agitation would be intensified if the government fails to meet their demand forthwith adding that till now no one from the administration came forward to talk to them. A senior official said the matter was beyond the competence of the official machinery and needs a decision from the elected government. |
