Rajouri suffers acute shortage of water
3/5/2018 10:29:39 PM
Early Times Report
Rajouri, Mar 5: In the absence of requisite and well planned infrastructure and mismanagement in Public Health Engineering Department inhabitants of Rajouri district have been facing acute shortage of safe drinking water at various places in the district.
If you go through the plans/ schemes in the official files, the department reportedly has been providing water to the people in the entire district at their door steps, but the ground truth is totally opposite to it and more than fifty percent schemes either are in the papers or don't exist on grounds/ dried up due to wrong planning.
Today residents including women of Badogh in the vicinity of Kalakot town blocked Kalakot-Reasi road with big boulders and empty utensils to express their resentment against the officials of PHE department for their failure to supply drinking water in their area.
People alleged that about 10 years pipes were laid in their area for distribution of water from a natural spring but the water was never supplied as the spring got dried before the water supply could be made operational.
"Few years back a hand pump was installed in the village but for the last two months it was out of order and the people were facing hardship but despite several representations the concerned officials didn't wake up from deep slumber and we were forced to go for protest" said a protester. Pawan Sethi, JE, PHE when contacted said , village Badogh was never connected with any water supply scheme. "Hand pump was out of order and the matter was brought into the notice of Ground water authorities. The team has been rushed to the village and by tomorrow hand pump will be made operational" said JE.
He added the officials have visited the village earlier also and the proposal has been prepared to check the already laid pipes and supply of additional pipes so that the water supply may be made from Sarhota-B water supply scheme.
