Mastermind of Sunjwan attack killed in encounter at Lethpora in Pulwama | | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Mar 5: Police and security forces achieved a major breakthrough in anti-militancy operations after they killed a top notch commander of banned militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) at Lethpora in Pulwama district. Sources in Jammu & Kashmir Police and army claimed that the militant was involved in the attack on the army camp at Sunjwan in Jammu on February 10 this year. The gunfight between the militants and security forces started after inputs were received that some militants are hiding at Hatwara-Lethpora in Pulwama district. Reports said that Army's 50 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation in Hatwara, Lethpora after receiving information about the presence of militants in the area. Defence sources said that during the operation, the mastermind of the Sunjwan militant attack and Lethpora militant attack JeM operational commander Mufti Waqas was killed. The slain militant has been categorized as A++ militant. A police spokesman said that on a specific input a cordon was laid by the joint party of Police Awantipora, 50 RR and 110 & 130 Bn CRPF at Hatiwara area in Awantipora. During search operation, the search party was fired upon by the hiding militant. "The fire was retaliated in which a militant was killed. He was later identified as Waqas alias Abu Arsalan, chief operational commander of outlawed outfit JeM. The slain militant was the chief architect of attacks on security forces including DPL Pulwama on August 26, 2017, Lethpora CRPF camp on January 1, 2018 and Sunjwan Army camp on February 10, 2018," said a police spokesman. The spokesman said that from the possession of slain militant one weapon, war like stores and other incriminating material was recovered. In this regard, Case FIR No. 34/2018 under section 307 RPC, 7/27 Arms Act has been registered in the police Station Awantipora and investigation has been taken up. The police spokesman while divulging details about the Shopian incident said that on the basis of the docket received on Sunday from the army it is learnt that the MVCP of army, located near Pahnoo in Shopian was fired upon from a Swift vehicle. The army retaliated in which a militant was killed and three individuals who were accompanying the said militant in the vehicle also succumbed to their injuries. 'Consequently the police reached on the spot and initiated medico-legal formalities and seized the weapon. The bodies have been handed over to the legal heirs. Further the identity of the militant has been ascertained as Amir Ahmed Malik son of Bashir Ahmed Malik resident of Harmeen belonging to banned LeT outfit. He was active since July 2017," said the police spokesman. This morning dead body of one more militant was recovered at Saidpora in jurisdiction of P/S Hurpora Shopian. He was consequently identified as Ashiq Hussain Bhat resident of Rakh Kapran of LeT outfit. He was missing since 13.11.2017, said the police spokesman. "Furthermore another dead body was found this morning near the incident of the last evening at Pahnoo Shopian. Apparently he was on a vehicle which was found near Pinjoora, Shopian. Locals informed the police about it. The deceased has been identified as Gowhar Ahmed Lone of Chitragam-Shopian," said the police spokesman. |
