Apex court stands behind Army jawans | No politics please! | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 6: The Supreme Court by halting the probe against Major Aditya has send a strong message to anti-nationals and their sympathizers that Army has got nothing to do with politics and it's doing the job. The Apex Court observed that Major Aditya "is an army officer and not an ordinary criminal." "No further investigation shall take place in the case till April 24, when the final hearing in the matter would take place," the court observed. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Country's highest court standing behind our soldiers should serve as an eye opener for the politicians who despite enjoying the security cover provided by the central forces leave no stone unturned to demoralize our brave jawans." He said, "Mob tried to lynch a Junior Commissioned Officer and attacked the army vehicles. Army fired in self defence so what's wrong in it?" A defence analyst said, "Jammu and Kashmir should concentrate on the governance part rather than confronting the Army and wasting its time for registering FIR against the Army. People at the helm in J&K should bear in mind that no FIR can be registered against the Army without seeking approval from the Central Government. Armed Forces Special Powers Act provides Army soldiers with a legal shield." It may be recalled that three miscreants were killed when Army personnel fired at a stone-pelting mob in Ganowpora village of Shopian on January 27 this year, prompting the J&K government to order an inquiry into the incident. The attorney representing the J&K government in the Apex Court said, "Army officers have no license to kill and the state has the statuary right to investigate a cognisable offence and the deaths of its own people." Reacting immediately, the attorney representing GoI said: "Licence to kill? Many of our troops are being killed there." A politician while referring to the recent shootout in south Kashmir's Shopian district in which two terrorists and four of their accomplices were killed said, "Had not the Apex Court taken a tough stand in Major Aditya's case, this time also state government would have ordered a probe and asked Jammu and Kashmir Police to register an FIR against Army." He said, "Had the terrorists succeeded in their nefarious designs they would inflicted casualties on the troops and fled away. By supporting our soldiers we are making sure that they wipe out the terror and terrorists from Kashmir so that peace can prevail." An observer said, "Supreme Court has shown the way and one hopes that politicians, especially in Jammu and Kashmir, would stop pointing fingers towards the Army would allow it to do its job." |
