Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 7: Jammu and Kashmir State Pollution Control Board (PCB) today rapped Chief Education Officer (CEO) Jammu for throwing garbage near government schools. Acting on the complaints received through a public trust, Regional Director State Pollution Control Board sought attention of the CEO towards the frequent dumping of garbage near government schools. "Your attention is drawn towards the frequent dumping and burning of garbage being carried our near Government Primary School Doda Basti Beli Charana," reads official document. It reads, as per field report confirmed by concerned SPCB officer on the basis of complaint, present situation reflects total ignoring attitude of school authorities and concerned ZEO towards possible environmental and health impacts on innocent children visiting school daily. The official document further apprises CEO of the Solid Waste Management Rules 2016, which says that all waste generators shall ensure source waste segregation, bulk waste generators, viz all gated communities and institutions with more than 5000 sq m area, all hotels and restaurants, all resident welfare and market association shall ensure source segregation, handover recyclables to authorized biodegradable waste within their premises through composting or bio methanation and no waste generator shall throw, burn or bury the waste generated by him on streets, open public spaces, outside his premises or in the drain or water bodies. Regional Director-Shaukat Chowdhary further asked the CEO to ensure that the school premises be not get converted into a dumping yard by preferably fencing boundary of school/planting trees on all sides as under norms with strict prohibition on burning of waste. |
