Early Times Report

UDHAMPUR, Mar 7: Believe it or not different diagnostic labs here are showing different results for the same person under same investigation. 38 year old man namely Jeevan Thakur of Udhampur had different results on three different days in a month at two diagnostic laboratories.
His results were 320 mg/dl on February 11, 1180 on February 26 and that time he was shocking when he look 1180 mg/dl result through army clinic lab and next day he went to another laboratory name and the result was come 175 mg/dl. He felt relaxed and got satisfied with the result of third test.
Normal value of Triglycerides is less than 150 mg/dl. Borderline-high is 150 to 199. High is 200 to 499. Very high is 500 or higher. But in the above mentioned case the value was 1180. Doctors treating patient refer these investigation results to prescribe medicines.
Any wrong investigation report may lead to wrong medicine which may even lead to death of the patient, who is the responsible?
It is pertinent to mention here that there is no check on the mushrooming of diagnostic laboratories across the state and some of these labs have even employed non-professionals on job thereby risking human lives. Also it is an established fact that doctors mostly refer their patients to certain private laboratories as the latter offer them handsome commissions.
Triglycerides are a type of fat found in our blood and our body uses them for energy. Even if the dietary intake of the concerned person whose blood samples were under investigations remained very fat rich, yet the escalation in values to such exorbitant levels is unbelievable. High triglycerides might raise risk of heart disease and may be a sign of metabolic syndrome.
When contacted, CMO Udhampur K C Dogra said that he is outside the station and can't comment at this point of time.
