Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 31: The Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) held a Seminar on the topic "Water Resources: Conservation and Management" at Government Model Degree College Mahanpur. Prof. M.K. Jyoti, Former Member Executive Committee, ISCA was the Chief Guest on the ocassion and Dr. O.P. Sharma Vidyarthi, Director Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing, J&K Government and a renowned taxonomist was the Guest of Honour. Dr. Ranvijay Singh, Dr. Vikas Dogra and Prof. Sudesh Kumar, eminent educationists and members ISCA, were other guests at the seminar. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. M. K. Jyoti expressed his happiness at such an event being organised at a distant place like Mahanpur. He, in his elaborative speech, dwelled upon various aspects of water conservation and urged the students to take personal pain in devising new methods of conserving water in general and drinking water in particular. He appreciated the participants and encouraged them for further participation in different activities. Dr. Vidyarthi, shared his personal experiences with students vis-à-vis conservation strategies. He appreciated the efforts of the college to protect and add to the already existing flora by means of establishment of a botanical garden. Dr. Ranvijay Singh, Treasurer ISCA Jammu Chapter, lauded the concerns and vision of college authorities and students to make efforts to conserve nature. He assured the college of help regarding organisation of more such activities at GDC Mahanpur. Earlier, Dr. Nutan Kumar Resutra, Principal of the College, extended a warm and cordial welcome to the esteemed guests. He lauded the role of Prof Jyoti, Dr. OP Sharma Vidyarthi and others in working for the preservation of environment and its protection. He portrayed the students as the ambassadors of ensuing revolution towards nature conservation. As a token of appreciation, the students namely Vilas sheikh, Sidhant, Shivali Sharma, Arti Devi and Kajal devi who participated in the symposium were felicitated with mementoes. Subsequently, a painting competition was also organised on the same theme. Prianka Sharma was adjudged first while Meenakshi Thakur and Kiran Bala were adjudged 2nd and 3rd respectively. Sheetal Sharma was presented a consolation prize. |
