Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 11: For the past few days incessant rains have been lashing the Kashmir Valley for the past few days and more rains are likely in the coming days. The will of the Almighty has mocked at the advisories of the experts urging farmers to refrain from paddy cultivation this year. Heavy rainfall brought cheers among the farmer community. Javid Mir of Qamarwari said that district administration had advised farmers not to cultivate paddy crop during this season due to possible of scarcity of water across the Kashmir. The govt was very sure that scarcity of water might prevail throughout the agricultural season in 2018 due to less snowfall during the winter, but four days continuous rain has brought cheers among the farmers and agriculture/horticulture related people. There is no doubt that the ponds and rivers had almost dried up but today there is a threat of floods. Abdul Gaffar from Kupwara said that few days back we are advised not to cultivate paddy it will lead to scarcity of rice in the district. It is impossible for us to cultivate cereals or maize on paddy land. Another farmer said that the continuous rain from past four days have not only ended the months-long dry spell in the Valley but has also rejuvenated the hopes of the farmers planning cultivation of different crops. The fresh rainfall has brought relief not only for the apple growers but also for the farming community of the region, said Mohammad Ramzan of Baramulla. |
