Early Times Report
Anantnag, Apr 19: Negating the claims of Health Minister, an IMS Pharmacist is single-handedly running a Primary Health Center (PHC) in Nagbal- Hapthnard village of South Kashmir's Pahalgam.
The hospital is running from dilapidated building having just three rooms. The Health department hired the building on rent for the hospital a few decades ago, villagers told Early Times.
The PHC caters to the population of the hilly areas of Nagbal-Hapthnard and 6 other villages having over 1253 households but the residents say due to the dearth of staff and machinery, the hospital, hardly serves their purpose.
Ayush Pharmacist, Hoshiyar Singh Bali admitted that most of the time he runs the hospital and treats patients including gynecology patients.
"I am here from last ten years. In absence of Doctor, I am treating patients," Bali said while asking health department to depute one more medical assistant in the hospital. He also rued constraint of space.
"Our new building is under construction from last many years. It should be completed because we are facing many problems due to space shortage" he averred.
Locals said that due to non-availability of doctors and proper health care facilities they had to suffer particularly during natural calamities and inclement weather conditions.
"For minor health alignments our patients are being referred to sub-district hospital Seerhamdan," they said.
Villagers said that in absence of a gynecologist nursing staff is conducting delivers.
Block Medical Officer, Dr Mohd Ashraf Padder admitted that hospital was functioning from a dilapidated rented building and the Ayush Pharmacist runs Hospital in absence of doctor.
"Right now we have single doctor at PHC Hapthnard. He too has to attend night duties at Aishmuqam hospital therefore at PHC Hapthnard he is giving only four days. Aysuh Pharmacist manages the hospital twice in a week single handedly," he said.
The officer also admitted that nursing staff posted in the hospital took care of gynecology patients and even conducted deliveries. However he pointed out that all of them were trained.
He said that he himself has written to R&B department and requested them to complete the left out minor works in hospital building so that it is taken over and hospital is made functional in the new building.
