| Civilian killed in militant shootout in Anantnag | | |  Saahil Suhail

Anantnag, Apr 26: A civilian was killed after suspected militants on Thursday afternoon fired upon forces in South Kashmir's Anantnag district. Reports said that militants who were travelling in a car opned fire on a group of police and CRPF troopers maning a naka on Khanabal-Pahalgam road at Laizbal.
In the attack, police said a civilian suffered fatal injuries and later died in Bijbehara when he was being shifted to Srinagar for further treatment.
Police said that at around 1420 hours some militants travelling in one car bearing registration no jk03b-1*4* fired at the SFs at lazibal crossing but the fire missed target and hit one civilian travelling in a Tata sumo vehicle . The bullet hit civilian later identified as Shakeeb Shabir son of Shabir ahmad Shah resident of Kharpora shopain.
Injured was evacuated to district hospital Anantnag, police said.
" After giving treatment injured was reffered to SKIMS srinagar but he succumbed to his injuries enroute at bijbehara. Post mortem conducted at bijbehara and necessary medico legal formalities were completed" Police said.
Police said that at the site of incident 4 empty cartridges were recovered from the spot, however militants managed to escape from the spot.
Alert about the car has been sounded and efforts are on the nab the culprits, police said. Police has registered a case and started investigation.Police seek assistance from the public in terms of any information related to the incident for investigation. |
