Early Times Report jammu, Apr 26: The Food Craft Institute, which is offering one and half year diploma in hotel management, has been claiming to provide 100 percent employment to all qualified candidates. But it seems they have forgotten the thousands of qualified professionals in Hotel Management and Tourism who have been sitting idle for over a decade. Many Diploma and Degree holders in Hostel Management and Tourism informed Early Times that the PG course in Hotel Management and Tourism was started in Jammu University in 2002 while the Diploma course was launched in various government polytechnic colleges in 2004. "Since then thousands of candidates have passed out with Diplomas and Degrees and even some have also qualified M.Phil and Ph.D in the Hotel Management. So far, however, their placement record in various hotels or other tourism-related industries is nil", the candidates said. "I completed Diploma in 2010 from NITS Polytechnic College, Bachelors in 2012, and in 2014, Masters in Hotel Management. But after venturing out in search of job for over a year, I finally had to work as a supervisor in an industry in Bari Brahmana", said Ranjit Kumar of Bhaderwah. He said when he visited some leading hotels of Jammu for job, they offered only Rs 3000. "That was shocking. Sadly, even today a fresher gets more than Rs 6,000 per month and that too for a waiter's job," he said. Another candidate said that Diplomas are offered by various government and private polytechnic colleges, Bachelor Degrees by various colleges, and Master degree courses is offered by Islamic University in Valley, Kashmir University, Jammu University, Central University Kashmir and Jammu. "Apart from this IGNOU is also offering Diploma, Bachelors, Masters but the main question is the placement of the qualified candidates, which is major bottleneck", the candidate said, adding that the claims of FCI of providing 100 percent placement in national and international hotels, and other allied industries is a big lie. The FCI Jammu is an autonomous society sponsored by the state government and affiliated with the Tourism department. |
