Amid ceasefire, fear grips Jammu people | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 16: Fear gripped Jammu region after announcement of unilaterial ceasefire in the holy month of Ramzan because before announcement of ceasefire Border Security Force (BSF) had officially confirmed that five terrorists have managed to sneak into Jammu region from International Border (IB) from Hiranagar sector. There is fear among people that after announcement of ceasefire by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, security forces will stop search operations against these terrorists because it is clearly mentioned that during the month of Ramzan security forces would not conduct any operation. The Centre on Wednesday decided to declare unilateral ceasefire of its operations in Jammu and Kashmir during Ramzan. A senior official confirmed that the security forces in the state have been asked not to "launch" operations in J&K during the holy month of Ramzan. It's also learnt that the Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in this regard and intimated her about the Centre's decision. "The decision has been taken to help the peace loving Muslims in the state to observe Ramazan in a peaceful environment," the official said adding that the security forces however reserve the right to retaliate if attacked or if it would be essential to protect the lives of innocent. "The Centre asks Security Forces not to launch operations in Jammu & Kashmir during the holy month of Ramzan. Decision taken to help the peace loving Muslims observe Ramzan in a peaceful environment," the Home Ministry said in a tweet on Wednesday evening. Meanwhile ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jammu and Kashmir on May 19, the Border Security Forces (BSF) have confirmed that five militants have sneaked into the Indian side. BSF Director-General KK Sharma, who arrived here on Tuesday, after a trooper was killed in firing by the Pakistani rangers in Samba district, confirmed that the successful infiltration bid took place on Monday. The BSF chief said the militants had sneaked in using a tunnel. He said a bigger infiltration bid aided by the Pakistani rangers was, however, foiled by the BSF on the international border (IB) on Tuesday. Modi is scheduled to attend several official functions during his one-day visit on Saturday. |
