Demand for Pakistan's involvement in talks is a trick to prevent its isolation | | | In fact the Kashmiri separatists want triangular talks where Pakistan too is involved. This is the crux of the demands made by the separatists in view of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's offer for talks. In reality Pakistan too does not want to get isolated while India is engaged in talks with the separatists. And that is the reason for Pakistan to announce that Islamabad was ready for honouring ceasefire agreement of 2003. And this is a ruse for India to accept or reject an offer for talks. And it is good if India involves separatists and Pakistan in triangular talks. Though nothing is possible out of the triangular talks because Pakistan will repeat the same old story of implementing the UN resolution on Kashmir without realising that in the UN resolution there was a clause that Pakistan should withdraw its forces deployed in Occupied Kashmir which Pakistan did not fulfill and hence the responsibility of violating the UN resolution falls on the shoulders of Pakistan and not on India. In response to the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's talk offer for talks, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik have said they were ready to join the dialogue process provided New Delhi cleared ambiguity and talked in one voice. Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik met at Geelani's residence and discussed Delhi's talks offer threadbare. After the conclusion of the meeting, the three leaders issued a joint statement in which they said statements emanating regarding talks in last few days from different people at helm of affairs in New Delhi, are "unclear and ambiguous". "The JRL wants to put all this in perspective and once again reiterate its stand. Any effort that Government of India (GoI) makes in this direction will find takers in Kashmir and Pakistan. Let GoI give clarity on what it wants to talk about and speak in one language, we are ready to join the process," reads the statement. This indicates that separatists are not clear in their stand whether to hold talks with India or not. And their demand for including Pakistan in talks is a matter left to New Delhi because India cannot act on the dictation of Separatists. It is a trick on the part of separatists to demand involvement of Pakistan in talks knowing that if they do not support the demand Pakistan may be sidelined. Let the top leaders of the separatist conglomerate hold talks with New Delhi and let them show some progress they could call for inviting Pakistan to the talks. Without waiting for the results of separatists-New Delhi talks it would be premature to demand involvement of Pakistan. It is clear that Islamabad may have sent a word or two to the separatists to demand inclusion of Pakistan lest it should be sidelined. |
