Early Times Report

Jammu, June 2: The Kashmir problem has one important factor which has not been considered by any government, the interlocutors, or those indulging in track II diplomats and that factor is viewing the problem from Criminological angle. The way some anti nationals in Kashmir dislike and treat all that is associated with India, its institutions, its people and the secular character of the country, is matter of concern to all right minded Indians and can be tackled in an effective way if the concepts of Criminology and related fields like Behaviorism, Neuro Biology etc are employed . To discuss all these issues, a one day Round Table Conference on the topic "Growing intolerance in Kashmir, its reasons, effects and Solutions", was organized by Criminologists Society of J&K at Court Complex, Jammu in which hundreds of intellectuals from legal profession and civil society of the state participated and shared their ideas. All participants welcomed this sort of initiative by the society and urged central government and the inter- locutor to take the suggestions of the conference seriously, if it seriously wants intellectual inputs for a just solution of Kashmir problem. While introducing the theme of the conference, Rameshwar Singh Jamwal said that the way research work is being carried out to find out the reasons of violent crimes, it has been observed that there are lots of biological and environmental factors, which shape the personality of individuals. The deficiencies and imbalances in trace minerals like zinc, cadmium, iron and some enzymes, neuro-transmitters like Dopamine and serotonine, can lead to brain impairments and aggression ,delinquency, changes in impulsive, thoughtless behavior are the results and this anatomy of violence in Kashmir needs to be investigated. D.K.Khajuria, former President Bar Assiciation said that the problem is old and requires urgent attention of civil society. Sunil Sethi,Senior Advocate spoke at length and suggested various measures including the efforts to make Kashmir an inclusive society, keeping communal harmony in Jammu region, tackling Pak sponsored agenda.
