Modi not in full command to grant several concessions to separatists, to Pakistan | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 2 : Ashok Kaul, general secretary of the state unit of the BJP is to be believed that Prime Minister,Narendra Modi,is this time in full command and he can decide whether talks with the separatists could prove successful or not.Modi is not in full command to accept the main demand of the separatists because the nature of their demand may leave Modi or for that matter Rajnath Singh disappointed. Is Modi in a position to concede the demand of the Hurriyat leaders for implementing the UN resolution that favours right of self-determination to the people of Jammu and Kashmir ? And acceptance of right of self-determination means holding of a plebiscite in the state.Had Modi been in full command the BJP would have not lost 11 of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in bypoll. Chairman of the hardliners among the separatists,Syed Ali Shah Geelani, wants that the Government of India admits that Kashmir is a disputed territory which alone could clear hurdles in the process of meaningful dialogue. Will Modi accept this demand and and his acceptance may mean India conceding its right to continue its right of claiming that jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of india. And the separatists wish to convert the proposed talks into a triangular dialogue. This means Modi has to accept dictation from the separatists who want Pakistan to be involved in the proposed talks. If Modi is in full command how could he accept dictation from the separatists ? That is why the central Government has conveyed to the separatists that they should approach the dialogue table with an open and sincere heart and the Government of India may reciprocate their gesture. But there is one guideline. The separatists should bring down the level of tension and violence in Kashmir. Are the separatists prepared to accept the suggestions from the Government of India ? Doubts surface therein and that is the reason for the Government of India to take measured steps while reopening the channels of dialogue with the separatists. And their demands may have or may not have any relevance to the settlement of the Kashmir issue because peace in Kashmir depends on the machinations of Pakistan. Pakistan wants a major chunk of the land in the Kashmir valley and Modi not in full command in conceding this demand. In fact he could go against 1994 Parliament resolution seeking India to regain control over Pakistan occupied Kashmir and tell Pakistan to retain its control on occupied Kashmir in lie of India's claim that Jammu and Kashmir being an integral part of India. This is the only concession Modi can afford to grant to Pakistan. Prime Minister, Modi, cannot go on a spree of offering concessions after concessions to Pakistan which may mean weakening the BJP's position in India that too at a time when 2019 General Elections are round the corner.Modi and Amit Shah seem to be determined to retain power after the 2019 Lok Sabha poll and any fresh concession to Pakistan may rupture Modi-Shah dream and planning. And Pakistan too should realise the domestic problems of India and hence if Islamabad is involved in triangular talks it should cooperate with India in the interest of cordial ties between New Delhi and Islamabad. |
