FIR against CRPF in Kashmir | Ceasefire or compromise | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 2: The unilateral ceasefire announced on May 16 by Home Minister Rajnath Singh has angered the people across India. What angered them all the more was the FIR filed by the J&K police against CRPF after a 25-year-old youth, who was allegedly hit by a CRPF vehicle in Srinagar, succumbed to his injuries late on Friday night at SKIMS hospital at Soura. Kasier, a resident from Fatehkadal, was injured during clashes between protesters and security forces in the Nowhatta area of the city. A CRPF spokesperson on Saturday said that a mob charged at a vehicle in which one of their officers was travelling. "The officer was there to survey the deployment. The vehicle came under attack from hundreds of youth in the area. They attempted to move out. Had they not, they would have been overpowered and lynched. The officer was accompanied by four escort personnel and a driver," CRPF spokesperson was quoted as saying. The J&K Police also confirmed that two FIRs have been lodged. One was registered against the CRPF, while the other filed in connection with the stone-pelting. By registering an FIR against CRPF, the state government, which is backed to the hilt by the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre, only sent a wrong message. It should have gone by the CRPF version and booked and arrested those 100s of stone-pelters, who, according to CRPF spokesperson, attacked the CRPF vehicle with a view to overpower and lynch the CRPF personnel, but it was not to be. The government acted otherwise leading to widespread resentment across the nation. If the PDP-BJP Government's FIR against the CRPF rubbed salt on the wounds of the bleeding nation, the statement of a BJP minister in the Narendra Modi Government created a sort of furore. He on Saturday claimed that "militancy in Kashmir is in its last stage". He made this statement a day after Kashmir witnessed 6 dreaded terror attacks on CRPF jawans and their vehicle - attacks which culminated into injuries to seven jawans and one civilian. Indeed, the situation in Kashmir is alarming. It's time for the authorities to sit up and review the whole situation that the nation has been witnessing after May 16. To not review the prevailing situation in Kashmir would be only help the enemies of India to cause more damage to the nation's cause in the state and undo what the Army and security forces did during all these 70 years to defeat the break-India elements in the Valley. |
