Bovine smuggling on rise

Rajouri, June 10: The bids of bovine smugglers have increased their activities to make huge money by selling the animals at higher rates after purchasing at very lower rates from Rajouri & Poonch districts.
Despite every possible stringent measures by the district police under the supervision of SSP, bovine smugglers have increased their activities and many time they succeed to reach Mughal road (in Poonch district) to head for Kashmir valley along with bovine animals reportedly in nexus with cops deployed en-route in both the districts.
During last 48 hours Thanamandi and Rajouri police have rescued 47 bovine animals and have seized 8 vehicles including one truck and 7 Tata Mobiles and also arrested 4 drivers while other managed to escape.
During intervening night of June 9 & 10, Rajouri police teams lead by inspector Tahir Khan, SHO and Fareed Ahmed, in-charge Chingus police post intercepted several vehicles an Jammu-Poonch highway and rescued 24 bovine animals and also sized 5 Tata Mobiles vehicles bearing registration Nos.JK11B-8225,JK11 B-4885, JK11B-4679 & JK02AS-4645.
"Police have also arrested four drivers-cum-bovine smugglers while the driver of one vehicle managed to give slip to police after parking the vehicle at some distance. On June 9 Thanamandi police under the supervision of Iftikar Choudhry, SDPO had seized two Tata mobile vehicles and a truck bearing registration No.JK11B-5416 and had rescued 23 bovines from these three vehicles. All the bovine smugglers / drivers had managed to slip from the spot after spotting police naka on Rajouri-Thanamandi road. All the bovine smugglers have been booked under relevant sections of the law.
