Anantnag: NC, Congress boycott 'Iftar' party hosted by admin

Early Times Report
Anantnag, June 10: To express sympathy with the protesting teachers, principal opposition party National Conference and Congress Sunday boycotted 'Iftar' Party hosted by the administration in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.
The district administration had invited over five hundred people including officers, political leaders, activists, civil society members and journalists.
However the opposition parties-National Conference and Congress decided to stay away from the Iftar Party.
MLA Pahalgam, Altaf Ahmad Kuloo, who was recently nominated as District President of National Conference for District Anantnag informed Early Times that his party boycotted the function to express sympathy with protesting teachers, revenue officials (Patwaris) and Anganwari workers and helpers.
"I and my district committee boycotted the Iftar party because this government has failed to release the salary of teachers. On this Eid these teachers and Anganwaris workers can't buy clothes and toys for their children and it pains," he said.
NC legislator claimed that government spent 10 Cr rupees on the function to please workers of ruling parties. "What was the need to spent 10 Cr rupees over this Iftar party? Government should have diverted same amount to the salary account of these protesting teachers," he added.
Kuloo said that his party would hit the streets if government fails to resolve the issue of teachers, patwaris and Aaganwardi workers in a short span of time.
Congress, State General Secretary Hilal Ahmad Shah said that it is meaningless to attend such functions in a situation when teachers are without salaries and all the government adopted policies have turned out to be anti-people.
"Instead of misusing taxpayers money, government must revisit its policies," Shah said adding that government's priorities should be protecting common and innocent people instead of pleasing workers with lavish meals.
Noted Journalist and author Rao Farman Ali also boycotted the function to express sympathy with the teachers.
