Petrol, diesel prices slashed for 13th straight day | | | Petrol and diesel prices saw another cut today, continuing a 13-day trend of reducing fuel rates across the country.
Petrol prices were slashed as much as 20 paise across metro cities while diesel prices were down 15 paise.
The price for a litre of petrol in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai fell to Rs 76.58, Rs Rs 79.25, Rs 84.41 and Rs 79.48, respectively (as per the data from Indian Oil Corporation).
The price for a litre of diesel, on the other hand, has dipped to Rs 67.95 in Delhi and Rs 70.50 in Kolkata. In Mumbai and Chennai, the prices were down to Rs 72.35 and Rs 71.73, respectively.
The constant fall in prices for 13 days comes as a relief since it comes after a fortnight of constant hikes. In the national capital, the prices had gone up from Rs 74.63 to Rs 78.43 in just 16 days.
The surge, which was due to the hike in crude prices globally, was similar across other metro cities too.
The 16-day price surge had put the government under pressure to reduce excise duties on energy products. Petrol is subject to an excise duty of Rs. 19.48 per litre while diesel Rs. 15.33 a litre. |
