Centre revokes ceasefire in Jammu & Kashmir | | | Agencies In a tweet, Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh has announced that the centre has decided not to extend the suspension of operations or (SoO) or ‘cease-ops' in J&K announced in the beginning of Ramazan.
Government has also revealed a data that showed 65 incidents of stone-pelting were reported from May 16 till June 16. In comparisson, 31 incidents were reported in January, 45 in February, 79 in March and 169 in April when the SoO was not in place.
The centre's decision to impose an SoO followed successive reports from the Centre’s Special Representative Dineshwar Sharma that killings and encounters were not yielding the desired results and the emotional upsurge at funerals of militants killed in encounters was aiding recruitment by terror outfits. PM Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting late on Friday on the security situation in the state, which was attended by the home minister, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and senior officials of intelligence and security agencies
