Effective life skills required to ward off stress : S S Sodhi | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 7: Humans were meant to become fearful and anxious in order to survive dangerous situations. Absolutely no worry or stress would leave us vulnerable and unprepared for a lot of situations. Addressing the meeting attended by all members of JKICS here today, the Chairman, Sodhi said that some level of stress is necessary for optimal functioning. He said that if you weren't worried at all about a deadline or presentation at work, you wouldn't put in the effort to do prepare wells for it, which could end up impacting the quality of your work and your appraisal by your colleagues and boss. Similarly, the pressure of achieving a certain weight goal will encourage you to be regular in your exercise routine. Therefore, the right amount of stress is necessary to help increase our mental ability and keep us moving ahead in life. He further added that the problem arises when this stress crosses the bar, leading to excessive and chronic stress which severely disrupts life- our performance at work, ruins our health or spoils our relationships. Sodhi said that the best way of dealing with stress is to identify our stress patterns, so that we are able to prepare ourselves for an expected stressful event. When we are prepared, we feel more in control and it stops stress from becoming overwhelming. Sodhi suggested some useful ways for creating a healthier, happier, and more energetic lifestyle such as by implementing a healthy regimen of good belly-rollicking laugh, balanced diet, light exercise and spending quality 'me - time' with oneself. |
