BOSE buries printing scam
Blank pages found in thousands of books
7/7/2018 11:40:45 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, July 7: The authorities of J&K Board of School Education (BOSE) have reportedly hushed up a multi-million rupees scandal involving printing of 8-10 blank pages with several thousands books.
Instead of initiating an enquiry and fixing the responsibility, the BOSE officials, who were involved in the scandal, clandestinely hushed up the entire matter by arbitrarily penalizing the printers with meagre Rs 5000.
Sources in the BOSE informed Early Times that several thousand textbooks for from Class-1 to 10 were printed through several printers. "For the last few years, the books supplied by printers are being found with nearly 8-10 blank pages.
This is not with one or two books but more than one lakh books could be found with blank pages", sources said.
They said that the BOSE has got a supply of Tulip Series English textbooks for Class 9 and 10. "Over 50 thousand books of Tulip Series are to be supplied for Class 9 and same number for class 10th. In both these books, blank pages are found", sources said.
They maintained that this printing scandal has been going on for the last few years but no printer or official was penalized. "When fingers were raised and issues came to the fore, the BOSE officials, who were involved in this entire scandal, suggested for penalizing the printers, only to show the public", sources said.
Without initiation of any enquiry, a penalty of Rs. 5000 each was imposed on few printers. "It is actually a printing scandal in which several Board officials, who have been getting themselves attached in Central office of BOSE were involved. They have made fortunes by siphoning off money from the Board coffers with active connivance of the printers, who gave them huge commission", sources said, adding that Board authorities have not fixed the responsibility for the errors and the scandal.
Most of the officials of Board as well as in the government are beneficiary of the commission, who have refused to get the matter properly investigated by the Board.
Governor office must order an enquiry into the entire matter to get the guilty punished, officials said.
