Azad explores new equations to corner Sharma bros, Karra | Infighting in PCC | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 21: While the BJP has kick-started its campaign for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the opposition Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up for more intrigues to scuttle the prospects of own party probables. And as usual, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and former J&K Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is in the lead role playing the game behind the curtain and exploring new equations to corner his bete-noire. According to sources in Congress circles, Sharma brothers (Madan Lal Sharma and Sham Lal Sharma) and Tariq Hamid Karra are the main targets against whom lobbying is being triggered by the Azad camp that has suddenly become active against the trio. To corner the trio and consolidate his position, sources said that Azad has also joined hands with the incumbent PCC president Ghulam Ahmad Mir, against whom the Azad camp had been openly revolting earlier. While Sharma brothers are being opposed because of Madan Lal's claim for the Congress mandate on Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary seat, which has been represented by him twice in the Lok Sabha, Tariq Hamid Karra has invited animosity of Azad due to his nomination as permanent invitee in the recently constituted AICC. While elaborating, sources said that Azad has desired for a suitable (Brahman) candidate, other than Sharma brothers, for the Jammu-Poonch seat and this was conveyed to his camp in a secretly held meeting of his loyalists here, who are likely to project Mohinder Bhardwaj for the same. With regard to common enemy Karra, sources said that both Azad and Mir have joined hands and a strategy is being chalked out for cornering him within the party. A sort of open revolt against Karra because of his soft corner for separatists may be triggered in the party at Jammu thus limiting him to Kashmir Valley only, sources predicted. Hence, as the Lok Sabha elections are approaching nearer, factionalism in Congress at Jammu and Kashmir is likely to further damage the party. |
