PDP trying to counter its vote erosion
7/25/2018 11:06:24 PM
The crisis ridden PDP plans to hold its foundation day on July 28 and the party that lost power recently is planning to make its impact felt in the valley. Already five MLAs including a former Minister have berated Mehbooba for turning the PDP into a family raj and that should have been the reason for her maternal uncle, Sartaj Madni, to resign as vice president of the party. He has made it clear that he has not resigned from the basic membership of the PDP and the main reason for him to quit the second in command post is to ensure that the PDP remains united and his resignation as vice president may silence those who had been accusing Mehbooba for promoting family raj. Facing criticism, Sartaj Madni has resigned as the PDP vice-president. Madni, maternal uncle of Mehbooba Mufti and the party second in command said that he resigned for "unity and strengthening" the party. Five other office bearers too have resigned to allow Mehbooba to restructure the party.
Madni accepted having resigned as vice-president to ensure that party gets more strengthen and stays united". The resignation came days ahead of the partys foundation day, which is being observed on July 28. The party is planning a grand show on its foundation day and is holding a public rally in Srinagar. After the fall of the PDP-BJP government, the Kashmir centric PDP is facing revolt within the party ranks as at least five lawmakers including a former minister has hit out at Mehbooba Mufti for promoting family raj. The lawmakers have publically spoken against the party leadership. Mehbooba after the dissent within party has been trying to reach out to the party leaders and workers. She even warned New Delhi of serious repercussion in case they try to split her party despite the fact that the BJP led NDA Government has denied its involvement in promoting internal row in the PDP.
Well the road ahead of the PDP is not smooth because majority of Kashmiris did not cherish its alliance with the BJP. In fact the actual base of the PDP is in the valley which is evident from its success in winning 25 out of 28 seats from the Kashmir region. With 28 MLAs it had no other alternative but to forge an alliance with the BJP. This alliance was framed to end regional discrimination and ensure liberal funding from the centre where the BJP led the Government. In reality the alliance has done more harm to the PDP than the BJP. If the BJP has lost vote bank support from the region of Jammu it was the creation from its MLAs and ministers. Its promise to grant citizenship rights to the West Pakistan refugees has remained a dream so has its promise of abrogating Article 370 and Article 35-A. Hence besides these false promises the performance of the BJP ministers remained poor. The PDP is faced with the rise of the NC and the Congress and the road for the PDP and the BJP is not smooth in the poll process.
