JK's lazy babus falling in line in Guv’s Rule | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 25: A month after the imposition of the Governor's Rule in Jammu and Kashmir, state's otherwise lethargic official machinery which always was caught napping seems to have awaken from the deep slumber and finally fallen in line. The babus now seem to have realised that their real task is to provide better services to the common masses and not to appease their political bosses for the choicest postings. By simply going through the official handouts, one could find how the bureaucrats are on tenterhooks, even racing against each other in reaching out to the common masses. As per the government statement issued on Wednesday, the grievance cell received 9,166 complaints/grievances, of which 6,357 have been disposed of/forwarded to the concerned quarters for their timely redressal and 940 complaints/grievances are under process. During this period, Governor's Secretariat received 2,388 complaints/grievances, of which 2,168 complaints have been disposed of/forwarded to the concerned quarters and 220 are under process. Furthermore, there are inspections being carried out by the officers at state, divisional and district offices to access the hardships being faced by the people at large in the state in general and in the far flung areas in particular. On Wednesday, one of the senior officers made a visit to filtration plant of Srinagar and said that there will be no compromise in providing safe drinking water to the general public. He stressed upon all the concerned to work with dedication and make sure to provide safe drinking water to the people. While inspecting the various units of the filtration plant, Secretary directed the concerned officers to ensure cleanliness in and around the filtration plant. What looks surprising is the fact that the filtration plant wasn't inspected so far and why all of sudden such an inspection was carried out remains intricate. In the same way, in another far flung area, the administration ordered establishment of a Follow Up Cell for listing up important developmental projects in the district besides tracking the status of progress of various departments on fortnightly basis. The cell, as per the government hand-out will have a team, comprising District Statistics and Evaluation Officer and two Statistical Officers, which will monitor the progress of schemes under implementation in the district besides keeping follow up on the decisions taken by the DDC in various meetings, public outreach camps and meetings with deputations. Moreover, a team comprising Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety and Food Safety Officers inspected various food establishments besides lifting samples for lab testing to ascertain the quality of food items. The team booked 17 food establishments under unhygienic conditions and other contraventions of FSSA 2006. In Srinagar, pursuant to the directions of Governor N. N. Vohra, the District Administration Srinagar on Wednesday launched a massive anti-encroachment drive and retrieved 32 kanals and six marlas of state and Kahchari land in three Tehsils from the encroachers. "Such drives and such inspections by the officers were alien to the state's administration. You would have found these officers relaxing inside their cosy office chambers during the rule of the coalition government for most of them had a political patronage. Now, that is gone and they are out in the field," says a senior official of the state administration. |
