Awareness camp on ragging laws held at Bhaderwah | | | Early Times Report
BHADERWAH, July 25: District Legal Services Authority and Tehsil Legal Services Committee Bhaderwah organized an awareness programme in the premises of Govt PG College Bhaderwah on heinous forms of attacks especially on anti-ragging laws . Renu Dogra , Chairperson Legal service committee Bhaderwah was the chief guest on the occasion and Mudasar Farooq , secretary District Legal services Authority Bhaderwah (Doda) was the guest of honour. Retainer lawyers Manjeet Razdan , Abdul Wahid , Fareed Beig , Vaibhav Sharma and Majid Malik were the resource persons.The legal experts deliberated in detail over the mentioned topics and highlighted the issues regarding causes of ragging in institutions .They also explained in detail the laws available to punish the culprits for doing such type of heinous crimes. They also explained the role of NALSA, SALSA, DALSA and TALSA in providing legal services to the victims at National, State, District and Tehsil level respectively.They advised the students to disseminate the information among common masses in order to curb such barbaric incidents.The Supreme Court banned ragging throughout the country in 2001 and had issued stricter guidelines in 2009 to prevent ragging in colleges and educational institutions, said Sub Judge Bhaderwah Renu Dogra Gupta .Though instances of ragging had come down, it persisted in some places and more so in hostels, he observed calling for the need to eliminate the problem. Tracing the history of ragging, Mudasir Farooq Munisff Judge said it started from the 8th century AD in Greece and gradually spread to other countries in Europe, the United States and later to India. Ragging became more rampant and severe in the country during the 1990s owing to mushrooming of engineering and medical colleges.Acting on the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court several higher educational institutions today had constituted anti-ragging committees in their respective institutions. It was the foremost duty of the head of the educational institution to take action against those found indulging in ragging, he said.Munsiff Judge said students too had a duty to prevent ragging in their respective institutions. Senior students should be a model for the juniors to emulate, she added. |
