Floriculture Deptt organises awareness program | | | Early Times Report
Doda, Aug 12: The Department of Floriculture Doda organized awareness cum training program on Lavender and other Aromatic plants at Village Kastigarh in Doda. On this occasion, Assistant Floriculture Officer Doda Arjun Singh Parihar aware the people about the different centrally sponsored schemes such as Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) and Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) which are being run by the department for the welfare of farming community. Parihar informed the farmers that during summer months farmers of Doda are producing thousands quintals of marigold flowers and earning their livelihood through flower cultivation. Now with changing scenario and huge demand of essential oils there is need to diversify from traditional agriculture to cultivation of aromatic crops such as lavender, rosemary, geranium etc which needs less irrigation and fertilizer and withstand stress of drought for long time. During the awareness programme, experts from the department delivered lectures on different aspects of floriculture. The growers were informed about the latest technological interventions which they can apply in their flower business and can boost their production. The programme was attended by large number of farmers from Kastigarh area and its adjoining villages besides the staff from floriculture department. |
