Vohra calls for restraint but PDP MLA threatens to boycott I'Day function | | | While the Governor N.N Vohra has directed officials to following Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) to prevent collateral damage. In the high-level meeting, chaired by Vohra, all issues related to security management including anti-militancy operations, counter-infiltration, security of ongoing Amarnath Yatra and upcoming elections of Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats were discussed in detail. On the other hand one PDP MLA from Tral, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah has threatened to boycott the Independence day function as a mark of protest against security forces trying to tease relatives of militants. Governor stressed on the need to maintain sustained real-time coordination between forces and civil administration. He also asked forces to ensure uncompromising adherence to the laid down procedures which prevent from registering collateral damages while carrying out operations against militants in Kashmir. Vohra obtained sector-wise assessments of the prevailing security situation and arising challenges especially in the Valley and reiterated the crucial importance of maintaining a sustained close watch on the ground situation. Against this lovely sermon from Vohra PDP MLA from Tral, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah appealed to the administration not to harass relatives of militants. He said this move would have serious implications and it would further alienate the already depressed youth of south Kashmir. Shah said he is really disturbed by the latest trend in which relatives and innocent young men are being picked up by forces in Tral. "Police have made arrests from Seer, Gulshanpora, Laam, Nazneen Pora. Being a public representative, he is answerable to people but police didn't listen to the MLA, which is unfortunate. If the trend doesn't stop, there will be more surge in militancy. It is better to have reconciliatory policy than the one based on revenge. The PDP MLA said as a mark of protest, he would boycott the proceedings of upcoming August 15 function. "What is the fault of relatives of militants? Why are you harassing them. You have to fight against militants and you should not target the family members of these militants. Late Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed was of the belief and opinion that families of militants should not be targeted," he said and urged Governor N N Vohra to ensure families of militants are not targeted. Even if some close relatives of militants are arrested by the security forces the security personnel wish to know where are the sons of the family and if the family members could pressurize their wards to shun militancy which is a guarantee for long life. |
