Govt employees still in Eid mood, abstain from duties | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad
Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 25: In Kashmir, two or three day holiday is not enough for any festival to government employees even though people are facing inconveniences due to non redress of their grievances. This was witnessed on Saturday when most of employees either remained away from duties or their offices were locked up. While visiting several offices in old secretariat Srinagar, most of the employees were missing. "Officials will come on Monday. There was holiday for two day but in Kashmir most employees do holiday for five days," an official of Health Department said. Same scenes were witnessed at Social Welfare Department where some rooms were either locked up or officials were missing. "We opened our office today but only few have come," an official of Aids Control Society said. Same condition was of Director Colleges office. There the office was locked. Even the Director Colleges was not there. "They officials will come on Monday. You should visit that day to get your work done," an official told Ghulam Mohammad, who had visited the office on Saturday for some official work. People faced immense inconvenience due to non-availability of employees. In the same building houses the office of SE SMC but the office was completely shut. "We visited several times for the last one week for redressal of sanitation problem, shortage of drinking water and health issues. Every time we have to return home as concerned officials are not available here," Bashir Ahmad, who was outside the Public Health Engineering Department. He said the covering of huge distance was only compounding their problems as they have to spend hundreds of rupees on bus fares. In Rural Development Department, most of the employees also stayed away from duties. Even though, authorities at the Rural Development Department (RDD) have pulled up its officials over dereliction of duties several times, sources said that employees preferred to stay away from duties. In Directorate of School Education, most of the officials were not present there. "Holiday for five days on Eid you will find nowhere in the world. If these people want to celebrate Eid fully let them celebrate for a month but why taking the salaries," Ali Mohammad, a resident of Soura, who along with scores of delegations from various parts were seen fuming outside the office over the non-availability of the officials. |
