As cops take a nap, thieves loot shops in Udhampur
9/22/2018 10:11:49 PM
Early Times Report

Udhampur, Sept 22: Yesterday's theft in the town has once again exposed the poor working and ill vigil maintained by the police department.
It is pertinent to mention that thieves burgled two shops at Gole Market and Mukerjee Bazar area in Udhampur town and decamped with a lot of cash and costly items.
Surprisingly, it took two hours for the alert police of Jammu and Kashmir to respond to the telephone calls by the victim shopkeepers whose shops were looted.
"I kept on dialing at police helpline number 100 and Police Station Udhampur at 270725 hoping that soon some help will be dispatched but to my dismay my call was responded after two hours which was a sufficient time for the thieves to escape scot-fee without any resistance," a shopkeeper whose shop was looted told this reporter.
A local informed that about 70 -100 meters away from the spot of theft was a police and Crpf patrol party but still the thieves managed to escape without any check and resistance and without being noticed.
Another local informed that policemen patrolling mostly are seen taking a nap at night hours and the operator of helpline number is no different.
The locals and businessmen in Udhampur town have appealed to the DGP and SSP Udhampur Rayees Ahmed Bhat to ensure that police helpline number and numbers at police stations are made responsive because one only calls at these numbers when help is needed.
