BJP finalizes names on 'disputed' seats | Despite boycott call, 152 candidates files nominations | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 22: Notwithstanding boycott call given by some parties, 152 candidates have, so far, filed nomination papers for the first phase of urban local bodies elections across J&K. September 25 is last date of filing nominations and scrutiny will be held on September 26. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is September 28 and elections for the first phase will be held on October 8. In the first phase elections will be conducted for 15 civic bodies of Jammu province including the Jammu municipal corporation. Similarly in Kashmir Valley elections in the phase one will be held for 15 civic bodies including three wards of Srinagar municipal corporation. Meanwhile after hectic deliberations BJP this evening cleared names of candidates on the seats where party leadership had failed evolve consensus earlier. While finalizing names of candidates for urban local bodies elections on Thursday evening, party leadership could not evolve consensus on over two dozen seats due to infighting in the party Names of the candidates for these disputed seats were cleared this evening.
