DOPK organizes Vitasta Divas programme

JAMMU, Sept 22: Daughters of Panun Kashmir (DOPK) organized the Vitasta Divas function today on the banks of Ranbir Canal with traditional gaiety and fervour.
Vitasta Divas is observed every year to celebrate the birthday of Vitasta river that is river Jhelum whom Kashmiri Pandits revered as a goddess.
The programme was organized under the chairmanship of the chairman Political Affairs Committee Virender Raina and among others was attended by JL Koul, Kamal Bagati, Upinder Koul, Shiban Kishen Bhatt, Sameer Bhatt, PK Bhan, Kewal ji, PN Pandita, Rajinder Chrungoo, Ashok Chrungoo, Suraj Dhar, JL Drabu, Sunil Dhar and BL Garyali.
Virender Raina while speaking on the occasion highlighted the significance of the day and said that the waters of Ranbir canal has a special significance for us as it carries the waters of river Chandrabhaga that is the river Chenab and in our religious texts the river Vitasta that is Jhelum and river Chenab are sisters. Raina added that we come here every year to celebrate the birthday of Vitasta river and pray to her that we will one day celebrate the day on the banks of river Jhelum again in Kashmir when it is free from the menace of terrorism.
As the evening set in earthen Diyas were floated in Ranbir canal by the members of the DOPK and Panun Kashmir creating a magnificent spectacle all around.
