People hold protest against water crisis

Kishtwar, Sept 22: The inhabitants of Shaheedi Mohallah Ward No. 7 and Ward No. 10 of Kishtwar Municipality and its adjoining areas today held a strong protest against PHE department for their failure in providing the drinking water to the people living in the area having the population of more than 1000 souls. The angry people held protest outside PHE Sub Division Kishtwar for hours together before senior police and administration officers intervened and assured the people that their grievances will be address in shortest possible time. Executive Engineer PHE Division Kishtwar also reach the spot and assured them to provide water facility in the area.
Speaking to Early Times, the people said that despite living in Kishtwar town, the people are without water since weeks together and are forced to hit the streets. They said that illegal water connection, along with favouritism and nepotism are the main cause of water crisis in the area. They also called for termination of old water supply scheme which is marked by illegal hooking and are demanding laying of open special gravity line for the area so that no body can illegally hook the said gravity line.
Some people said that even during festival days, the government fails to provide the drinking water to the people living at door step of Kishtwar town.
They said that officials of the department even gives them the assurances as and when they approach them, but nothing was done with regard to addressing the issue.
After the assurance from the senior PHE Officials, the protesters called of the protest.
