Infiltration bid foiled in Tanghdar; five militants killed, Soldier martyred

KUPWARA, Sept 24: Army today claimed to have killed three more militants, taking the death toll to five however an army soldier was also martyred during an encounter. The encounter broke out after army foiled infiltration bid in Tanghdar sector of this North Kashmir district.
A top police official said that three more militants have been killed in an ongoing encounter that erupted on Sunday in the dense woods along the Line of Control in Tangdar sector.
On Sunday the security forces had found suspicious movement along the line of control, after which the patrolling party intercepted a group of 3-5 heavily armed militants, the police official told Early Times.
The official said that the militants were challenged, but they opened fire on the security forces after which a gunfight ensued, and two militants were killed on Sunday late evening.
The additional reinforcement was called in, as the militants had took shelter in the dense woods in Tangdar sector, after which the operation was continued and it was again resumed today, in which three more militants were eliminated, while as army soldier was injured who later succumbed to injuries, the officer said.
Meanwhile army's Srinagar based defense spokesman Col, Rajesh Kalia told early times that three militants were killed today, taking death toll of militants to five so for.
"One gallant soldier also died in the operation, adding the search operation is still in progress", Kalia said.
