Skill development training programme on fruit crops organised | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 11: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) and Department of Horticulture, Reasi imparted training on scientific cultivation of fruit crops to young aspiring entrepreneurs and farmers here todayat Govt. Fruit Plants Nursery, Pouni. The programme was attended by 20 participants from different areas of Reasi district. The programme was organized under the able guidance of Associate Director Extension and Incharge of KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr.R.K.Arora and Director Horticulture, Jammu Ms.Anuradha Gupta. The programme was co-ordinated by Chief Horticulture Officer, Reasi, Vishnukant Gupta. Dr.Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi apprised the participants about the subtropical fruits like mango, guava, citrus, litchi etc. and elaborated the scientific production technologies for these fruit crops. He elaborated the eco-friendly techniques for the management of insect-pests and diseases in sub-tropical fruits. He stressed on the fruit production technologies under protected structures and demonstrated the nursery raising techniques of horticultural crops under protected conditions. He said that microclimate is controlled under protected structures as per the requirement of the plant species and this helps to increase productivity, quality and off-season production of fruit crops. He highlighted the organic horticulture and said that farmers can generate more income and employment by growing the organic horticultural crops. He also elaborated on vermicomposting and guided the farmers for the use of biofertilisers, biofungicides and biopesticides for the organic horticulture. Raghu Upadhaya, Subject Matter Specialist said that the farmers should divert themselves from subsistence horticulture farming to commercial horticulture farming so that their income can be increased. He also talked in length on high density orchards and stressed the standard spacing. He also discussed on nutrient management in sub-tropical fruits. The participants showed keen interest in the programme and were highly inspired after observing the results of fruit crops grown under protected conditions in the orchard. On this occasion many quarries were raised by the farmers which KVK scientist answered in a satisfactorily way. During the programme extension literature on organic horticulture was also distributed among the participants. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and Chetan Sharma. |
