115 villages of Chenani declared avoidable blindness free | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Oct 11: As many as 115 villages falling in fourteen panchayats of tehsil Chenani as well as village Thathi Chak in district Udhampur have been declared as avoidable blindness free in a programme organized by the Rotary Hospital Udhampur here today . With the main objective of eliminating avoidable blindness to address the problem of eye care and the importance of 'Avoidable Blindness' Rotary Club Udhampur in collaboration with Health Department launched the said project to make entire district Udhampur blindness free . Avoidable Blindness Free Village is a concept which has been developed, tested and achieved by "Operation Eyesight" which ensures that all villages irrespective of gender are provided with opportunity to undergo eye checkup and treated for curable eye conditions to regain better vision. During this period, Rotary Club reached out to the blind persons and conducted awareness camps in far flung panchayats of Chenani as well as village Thathi Chak. With the efforts of the Rotary Club, 146 blind persons, both males and females, are now able to see the world with their own eyes. |
