Security beef up on cards as Salah-ud-din wants war in Kashmir | Jammu borders, Kashmir power stations under threat | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 28: With the US-designated terrorist and head of the United Jehad Council chief Syed Salah-ud-din publicly asking for "full support" of Pakistani Army for a war in Kashmir, the security is being heightened across the state particularly borders in the Jammu region. Sources said the Army and BSF have been asked to be extra vigilant on the borders while the security is also being heightened across the state, mainly at various government installations. Sources said security agencies have inputs that in the coming months Pakistani Army may intensify shelling in the border regions of Jammu to push their terrorists into the Indian territory. "During winters, Kashmir LoC is largely inaccessible for any possible infiltration so Jammu borders may heat up as the UJC has made a public statement in this regard," said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. He said apart from borders, the security was to be beefed up at various other installations like power stations feeding the state. Sources said the security agencies have taken serious note of the militant attack on the power grid station in Wagoora area of central Kashmir, where a CISF jawan lost his life on October 27 to prevent militants from storming the installation. Sources said the incident was not being seen in isolation but that it could be a part of the larger conspiracy hatched by Pakistan to deprive the state of Jammu and Kashmir of its infrastructural resources. "The attack on the power grid station came a few hours before the UJC publicly seeking support of Pakistan Army. This means that Pakistan Army is already on the job and wants to look at the state of Jammu and Kashmir through prism of war where resources like power plants are the first target, so we can't take a chances," explained a senior official on the condition of anonymity. On October 27, the United Jihad Council called upon Pakistan to extend "full support" to Kashmiris "before it is too late." The UJC is an amalgamation of around a dozen militant groups operating in Kashmir, with Salah-ud-din's Hizbul Mujahideen its largest constituent. "There is no question of a peaceful negotiated settlement of the longstanding issue in the presence of such an attitude and atmosphere in India," Salah-ud-din said, asking Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan to "hear the pleas of Kashmiris from their hearts." Salah-ud-din also asked mainstream political leadership in Kashmir to "give up political opportunism and join the ranks of their wounded freedom-seeking nation." |
