KVK, Reasi Scientist gets Excellence in Extension Award-2018

JAMMU, Oct 28: Dr. Banarsi Lal, Incharge, Senior Scientist-cum-Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) has been conferred with the Excellence in Extension Award-2018 by the National Agriculture Development Co-operative Ltd. in the International Conference on "Worldwide Research Initiatives for Agriculture, Science and Technology" held at University of Kashmir, Hazartbal, Srinagar, J&K, India from 24-26 October, 2018. The conference was organized by National Agriculture Development Co-operative Ltd. in collaboration with SKUAST-K, Department of Sheep Husbandry-Kashmir, Govt. of J&K and Department of Agriculture-Kashmir, Govt. of J&K. The award was bestowed upon the scientist for his immense contribution and meritorious achievements in the field of agriculture and allied sectors. The award contains a Certificate of Excellence along with a momento. The panel conferred the Excellence in Extension Award-2018 to the budding scientist based on his rigorous and innovative efforts for the transfer of agricultural and allied sectors technologies to the farmers of hilly districts Udhampur and Reasi, for his national and international research publications, for leaflets, folders, pamphlets, articles, trainings, farmers-scientist interactions, Farmers Field Schools(FFSs),Kisan Ghosties, Ex-Trainees Sammelen, SHGs/Farmers Clubs/FPOs formation, management and strengthening, PRAs/benchmark surveys, impact assessment studies, , farmers fairs, TV talks, radio talks, books, book chapters, research papers, success stories, case studies , invited talks, consultancy services, technologies developed, refined and disseminated etc. It is pertinent to mention here that during the illustrious career of 11 years as a scientist, the services of Dr.Banarsi have been widely recognized by the various leading scientific societies at State, National and International level. Dr.Banarsi, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) nominee, a Gold Medalist and an alumnus from the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi has developed an innovative and unique Exponential Mathematical Communication Model which is very handy to assess the communication behaviour of the farmers and can further help to change the communication behaviour of the farmers towards new agricultural technologies. Dr.Banarsi has done an extensive research on communication model building along with the renowned Professor, Dr. Dipak De. Dr.Banarsi has written more than 490 publications as research papers in national and international journals, technical bulletins, articles, success stories/case studies, leaflets, book chapters, training manuals. The scientist is making strenuous efforts for the promotion of the eco-friendly farming in the region so that safe and healthy food can be produced for the mankind. Special efforts on commercial floriculture, turmeric, ginger and medicinal/aromatic plants have also been made by the scientist to tackle the monkey menace. The scientist has also won many English essay writing competitions, painting competitions, debate competitions. He has distinction of receiving the Best Annual Report Presentation Award, Best Research Paper Presentation Award, Young Scientist Award, Best Scientist Awards, Best Extension Work Award, Scientist of the Year Award, Special Achievement Award, International Achievement Award, Best Extensionist Award and many appreciation awards in many zonal, national and international conferences and workshops. Dr.Banarsi is endeavouring to develop agri-entrepreneurship in the rural areas to uplift the socio-economic status of the farmers especially in the hilly areas.
Presently he is a Fellow Member of many prestigious Scientific Societies. According to Dr.Banarsi by developing skills among the rural people, they can be made employable and employability increases the income and sufficient income leads to a healthy and a prosperous nation. Dr. Banarsi dedicated the award to the farming community.
