One militant killed in shootout, another arrested | | | Early Times Report KUPWARA, Nov 2: A newly recruited militant of Tehreek-ul Mujhaideen was killed on Thursday late evening, after militants fired upon security forces in Sagipora area of Handwara, while as Police on Friday claimed to have arrested one militant in the same town of this north Kashmir's Kupwara district. A top police official said that on Thursday late evening one militant was killed in a shootout at Sagipora area of Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara district. "There were some intelligence reports about the movements of some militants in the area, after which a Naka was jointly laid by army and SOG, Police at Sagipora on late evening on Thursday", the police official said. The police official said that during a routine check, a car was signaled to stop; however the militants traveling in it fired upon the naka party, and the fire was retaliated by security forces resulting into the killing of one militant. The officer said that the body of the militant has been recovered along with arms and ammunition. Sources identified the slain militant as Naseer Teli, who recently joined Tehreek-ul Mujahideen militant outfit from north Kashmir. Today authorities had imposed some restrictions in few parts of Sopore town, to avoid any law and order problem. Meanwhile it is learnt that police have arrested one militant of Al badar in Handwara area today. "On specific information, a joint Nakka of Police/Army/92 CRPF was laid at Chutipora crossing at 1430 hrs," the police spokesman said. He said that during checking a suspicious person was intercepted. On his search a pistol and 2 grenades were recovered. "The person was identified as Sajjad Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Hamid Dar a resident of Rohumu Pulwama. Sajjad had been missing from his home since 03/10/2018 and a report to the effect had been lodged in Police Station Rajpora, District Pulwama. However sources said that the arrested person namely Sajad has recently joined the militant outfit Al Badr. A case has been registered in this regard at Police Station Handwara and the investigation has been taken up. Sources said, from past couple of weeks, there is a sudden increase in militancy related incidents in north Kashmir, and a joint team of security forces are keeping a close vigil over the movement of suspected people in the areas. |
