Governor Malik hits the 'bull's eye' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 1: Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has once again hit out at the politicians by asserting that assistance provided by the Centre was never utilised optimally by successive regimes. "The Centre has been generously doling out funds for the development of Jammu and Kashmir, which is essential to bring about peace in the state. But those at the helm of affairs in the state have never been up to the mark. The twin evils of corruption and nepotism are at their peak in Jammu and Kashmir," Governor Malik has said. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Since the day Governor Malik has taken over the reins of the state he has brought such facts to fore which have created ripples in the entire state." He said, "Politicians should come forward and answer the questions which the Governor Malik is asking. In fact the people who have ruled the state for so many years seem to have been rendered speechless. Their misdeeds stand exposed." A Kashmir watcher said that politicians in Jammu and Kashmir should answer what they did with the money which was pumped into the state during all these years. "They cannot just close their eyes and brush aside these allegations. Many politicians during all these years have become rich and famous and have amassed huge wealth. They need to answer where did they get so much money from?" He said, "The accountability commissions which were set up in the past couldn't do much to nail the corrupt politicians in the state. Complaints which were filed against them were pushed under the carpet just to save the skin of the people who were influential and powerful." An observer said that the crusade against the corruption which Governor Malik has launched has to a great extent exposed the politicians who have enjoyed the power to the hilt when sun was shining. "There are many scams which the Governor can get probed. Governor's rule has provided a golden opportunity to the anti-graft agencies to nail the corrupt elements, who have been responsible for making the system defunct," the observer added. An official who wished not to be named said that many centrally sponsored schemes even failed to take off during the political regimes. "These schemes used to get stuck in one or other wrangle as the politicians always wanted their own men to get benefitted." Another analyst said that the politicians, who have been misleading the people during all these years by showing them "dreams and selling slogans" could be in a soup if the Government of India decides to take action against them. |
