JAMMU, Nov 2: Alexander Memorial Higher Secondary School, Eid-Gah, Residency Road, Jammu hosted the 'Urdu Day Celebration' on 2nd November, 2018 in the school campus. Parvez Malik, IAS, Retired Commissioner Secretary Public Health Engineering Department, J&K State, and also an alumnus of the host school was the 'Chief Guest'. Five students each from St. Peter's School, Hari Singh School, S.D. Tarapuri School, Alexander Memorial School, J&K Police Public School and KB School, along with their escort teachers participated in the function. Two participants each from the schools read out their papers regarding the origin, development, achievements and importance of Urdu language which is also the official language of J&K. The speakers exhibited sound knowledge, clarity of thought and expression and confidence during the delivery of their speeches which the worthy audience applauded with lusty cheers. Earlier, Esther William, Principal Alexander Memorial School, welcomed the Chief Guest, the Guests of Honour and the other distinguished guests. A short speech was also delivered by Razia Khan, senior Urdu teacher, highlighting the contribution of Late Bishop Aziz William, the first non-white Principal of the school, who besides being a linguist, was a strong votary of Urdu and brought about a seminal change in the composition and curriculum of the school. She also highlighted the importance of Urdu in the Schools/Colleges of Jammu. The Chief Guest lauded the efforts of the participating schools and encouraged the young students to actively participate in such cultural and literary activities. The proceedings of the function were conducted by Suzain Bhat and Master Ahtisham under the able guidance of Razia Khan, Senior Urdu Teacher. |
