Separatists' play negative politics | | | Have separatists anything else to do except for calling for shutdown and protest rallies? They do not seem to have anything else to do except for registering their presence and strength through organizing hartals and protest rallies. The occasion was the killing of two militants belonging to Lashkar-i-Toiba and one policemen. These separatists actually mourned the killing of two militants, though they were from Pakistan. Whatever may be the creed of caste or country of militants their killing does generate anger among the separatists and their anger is the cause of crowding of the burial ground where the slain militants are to be buried. Thank the senior functionaries of the security forces who decided that no proper security grid has had to be maintained during the burial of the slain militants. That should have been the reason for end to civilian killings. Normally the crowds gathered at the burial grounds clashed with the security forces and stoned these companies of police which resulted in a retaliation by the police who would open fire on the stone pelting crowds causing some injuries and even killings of civilians. For a change these functionaries have not deployed the police or the security forces and hence the situation remained peaceful at the burial grounds. Judged by the enormous crowds the damage could have been quite enormous had the crowds clashed with the security forces. This is the right practice on the part of the state Government. Even when there are no killing of civilians the separatists have to berate the security forces for having killed militants. This is done to show their presence and generate pro-people feeling. If the separatists remain silent spectators of the incidents of violence their presence and strength get lost. That is the only way for the separatists to call for shutdown. And during the recent ULB polls the separatists gave a call to people to boycott the elections. And in the Kashmir valley polling percentage was poor and Srinagar zone witnessed the poorest polling percentage. This is vigour to separatists when they should not have been delighted over the response of people to their call for boycott of the polling. They would have tasted defeat had not the National Conference and the PDP boycotted the election. The fate of the separatists would have been the one witnessed during the 2014 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. At that time people did not respond to the call for boycott given by the separatists because at that time neither the NC nor the PDP had boycotted the elections. |
