High Court directs Transport Commissioner for fare revision from Chenani to Nashri | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 5: High Court directed Transport Commissioner to take a call on revision of fares between Chennani to Nashri Tunnel, JusticeDheeraj Thakur after hearing Advocate Ankur Sharma for the petitioners Sumit Sharma, member International Volunteer Foundation in OWP No. 2251/2018 titled Sumit Sharma V. State of J&K through Transport Commissioner J&K directed Transport Commisioner to take a call within four weeks on the revision of fare between Chenani and Nashri Tunnel. Pertinent to mention here is that the petitioner Sumit Sharma, a resident of Peerha had moved a detailed representation to the Transport Commisioner, RTO Ramban and RTO Udhampur regarding revision of fares between Chenani and Nashri Tunnel. Sumit Sharma had complained about the exorbitant and unreasonable fare collection by transporters between the afore mentioned route. It was brought to the Notice of the court that ever since the construction of Chenani Nashri Tunnel, the distance between the two destinations was reduced from 43 K.M to just 9 K.M. Despite such reduction, the Bus and other ferry owners were charging exorbitant fares. The unreasonableness of the fare could also be discerned from the fact that just for a distance of 9.5 K.Ms, the transporters are charging Rs 50 per person one way. After the passage of this order, it is expected that the fare between Chenani and Nashri Tunnel will be reduced to reasonable levels. That would come as a relief for thousands of commuters. Transport Commissioner was respresented by Government Advocate Suneel Malhotra. |
