Eyeing Panchayat polls, BJP begins 'mission Govt formation'
Now or never for rebels

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 8: It is going to be now or never for the BJP in terms of government formation in the state, as hectic parleys between various rebel groups and the party are gaining momentum by the day. As per sources privy to this development, the BJP is giving it a last shot to strive for becoming the part of government in Jammu and Kashmir that was put under Governor's rule on June 19 this year.
There are reports coming to the fore that the top BJP leadership is holding hectic confabulations with its ally in the state, the People's Conference led by Sajad Lone. There are also reports that the rebel PDP group led by its former minister Imran Ansari is also holding talks with the BJP leadership and both are exploring options to form the government in the state.
Sources divulged that if the BJP succeeds in forming the government, same could give it a major edge during the Panchayat polls.
As per reports, the development is being witnessed after the BJP-backed Junaid Mattu secured the Mayoral position in Srinagar Municipal Corporation. The BJP high command, reportedly after getting the news, dispatched its points-man Ram Madhav to Srinagar wherein he is entering into an initial stage of talks with the rebel groups. If sources are to be believed, he will meet Governor Satya Pal Malik only after briefing the high command over the groups' position and viability of the BJP to lead the coalition government in the state.
Madhav, as per reports, has already met Sajad Lone who has briefed him about the ground position and what modus-operandi has to be adopted for the formation of the government in the state which at present is witnessing a political logjam.
The rebel group of the PDP has already claimed that it has the support of at least 23 legislators from the party, and if it allies with the BJP's 25 and two of Sajad Lone, it could woo other independents too attain the magic number of 44 in the state's lower house. Pertinently, on October 9 this year, former PDP leader and Minister Imran Ansari stated that the new third front in the state would be led by Sajad Lone. "The new alliance will rally around Sajad Lone. We have like-minded people who, when the time comes, will come out in support of the third front. Right now, we might be three MLAs, but I assure you when the times comes we will have 23," Ansari had said in an interview.
"There will be only one face in the third front," Ansari said when asked who would serve as the third front's chief minister. "That will be Sajad Lone".
Sources said that the situation would become transparent within days as the week is going to be a crucial one for the state's political future.
