Congress extends support to Lal Singh's brother | Elections for President,Vice President of MC Kathua | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 8: The District Congress Committee (DCC) Kathua has extended support to the brother of a BJP legislator for upcoming elections for President, Municipal Council Kathua. According to the whip issued by President of DDC Kathua, Manohar Lal Sharma, to two party councillors, Renu Bala of Ward 12 and Pushpa Devi of Ward 16, to extend support to Rajinder Singh alias Babbi, who is brother of BJP legislator from Basohli, Choudhary Lal Singh. According to the whip, "In terms of Section 18-A, of Municipal Act 2000, you are hereby directed, very clear and categoric, to remain present and vote for Rajinder Singh, son of Saran Singh, elected councillor of Municipal Council Kathua, in the schedule meeting of MC Kathua for the election of President/Vice President on 10/11/2018 at 12:30 PM, who has been set up as candidate for the post of President/Vice president supported by INC. A whip to this effect is issued, as such for mandatory compliance." Sources informed Early Times that Rajinder Singh has so far not joined the Congress and his brother is still legislator from Basohli constituency on the ticket of BJP. Moreover, Naresh Sharma of Congress along with some other party councillors had joined BJP and is in the race for the post of President, Kathua MC. DCC President Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma has also sought explanation from Naresh Sharma as well as to other members as per the notices issued on 26/10/2018, according to which Naresh Sharma and another Congress councillor has been asked to submit written explanation within five days. "It has been mentioned in the notice that Naresh Sharma has been conducting series of meeting of BJP leadership including BJP MLA from Kathua and making hands in glove with BJP, which is against the philosophy of INC", it reads. Naresh Sharma denied of getting any such notices from the DCC office. "I have not received any notice from anyone and it appears the notices were issued in back date. Though I have nothing to do with Congress now and they have become desperate", Sharma said, adding that only one Congress councillor is with them who is also going to join some other party. Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President GA Mir said that DCC president Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma had discussed the matter with him. "In Kathua Municipal Council, the fight is between independents and BJP. The Congress party has to take stand so I had instructed DCC president to personally visit the areas and took decisions", Mir said. |
